Tougher route for bikers Global Cebu’s slump continues

-

More than 400 cyclists will explore the scenic views of Bohol for the sixth edition of the annual cycling event dubbed as Motor Ace Giro D’ Luca on May 4 to 6.

“For this year, our theme is exploring Bohol. We will promote the place and the scenic scenes of Bohol to the cyclists,” said Ivee Alfredo Cabahug, manager of Motor Ace Racing Team, in a press conference yesterday.

Juno Villena, Motor Ace Philippines operations manager, said this race is also part of Bohol’s sports tourism campaign as most of the cyclists will bring family members or friends during this event.

“We have more than 400 registered right now but we expect about 500 on the event day. There will be onsite registrants,” said Cabahug.

This year’s Giro D’ Luca will cover 180 kilometers on Day 1 from Bellevue Resort to Danao Police Station, and the second day will also cover 180 kilometers from Bellevue Resort to Jagna and Duero.

The third and final leg will cover 140 kilometers but the route will be a surprise and will be revealed only on that day.

The riders for this year will come from Cebu, Bohol, Manila, La Union, Negros, Davao City, Tagum City, Dipolog, Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon, and Surigao.

Cabahug said they have changed the route after listening to the feedback from cyclists.

“They wanted a more challenging route,” he said. “The first day is the most challenging with longer stretches of climbs. The heat also will be a challenge.”

The participants in the fun ride will get a finisher’s shirt if they complete the three stages. / Global Cebu FC’s woes in the Philippines Football League (PFL) continues after suffering yet another loss, 3-0, to the Davao Aguilas last Sunday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

Aguilas star Phil Younghusband, who played left midfielder, scored the opening goal in the 17th minute, while older brother, James hit the back of the net in the 51st minute and then scored his brace in the 64th minute.

Global Cebu FC still remains at the bottom of the table after finishing as runner-up last season. Global Cebu FC, which won’t be playing any home matches in Cebu, is still in search for its first win. The club that represents Cebu has only a point from five games.

Ceres Negros FC is at the top of the standings with 12 points followed by Davao Aguilas FC with 11 points. Kaya FC-Iloilo is third with seven, JPV Marikina FC is fourth with six and Stallion Laguna FC is fifth with three points. Global Cebu FC’s next match is against Kaya FC-Iloilo tomorrow afternoon./
