Bantayan keeps perfect record in Gov Cup

Bantayan remained unbeaten and stayed on the top of the North Division Bracket 4 of the Governors Cup 2018 Basketball Tournament after a 108-57 drubbing of Madridejos at home over the weekend.

It was a one-side affair as Bantayan, cheered on by its hometown crowd, immediatel­y took a 30-17 lead before increasing it to 21 points at halftime.

It turned from awful to worse as Madridejos just scored 24 points in the second half, including nine in the final period. Bantayan outscored Madridejos by 30 points in the last 20 minutes of the ballgame.

Romeo Sumbi Jr. bounced back from an off night and led Bantayan in this game with 18 points. Samuel Escaran, Alfredo Veliganio Jr. and Adam Elnour scored 10 points each.

Alfonso Quijano Jr. scored 12 points to lead Madridejos, while Albert Illustrisi­mo chipped in 11.

After a dismal 0-2 start, Daanbantay­an logged its second straight win start with a 115-107 overtime victory against San Remegio.

Five Daanbantay­an players were in double figure scoring; Robert Intrampas and Charson Gomez both had 21 points, Jestoni Maloloy-on scored 17 off the bench, while Roland Mercader and Christian Omandac had 11 points each.

Arnold Ando had a huge game with 30 points, while Guinevere Amit pitched in 21 markers. Neil Sinadjan and Gian Tinapay added 17 and 14 respective­ly.

Meanwhile, Medellin bounced back from back-to-back losses with a 96-77 win over Santa Fe.

Gelmart Umpad had a monster game of 30 points, while Fritz Saladaga added 21. Marvin Bula led Santa Fe with 27 markers, while John Villabrill­e scored 15.

Bantayan is the leader of North Division Bracket 4 with a 4-0 slate. It is followed by Medellin at 2-1. Daanbantay­an and Madridejos are tired identical 2-2 records, San Remegio is fifth at 1-2 and Santa Fe is last with at 0-4. /
