Argao and Talisay each booked tickets to the quarterfinals of the South Division of the Governor’s Cup 2018 Basketball Tournament after winning their respective games the other night.

Argao destroyed Alcoy, 74-48, at the Alcoy Municipal Gym to take the second spot in Bracket 2 after Sibonga already took the other quarterfinals spot earlier.

Erickson Sangoyo carried most of the offensive load for the very determined Argao squad. Jomari Parantar added 13 points.

Hance Estrera was the only player for Alcoy in double figures with 10 points.

Talisay City, in the meantime, finished the elimination round with an immaculate 4-0 slate after a 79-59 beating of San Fernando in Carcar City.

Talisay City had four players in double figures. Jay Dieparine had 21 points to lead all scorers, Elmer Echavez added 14, Raffy Bacasmas had 11 and Ronan Briones chipped in 10.

Jhonson Saramosing had 17 markers for San Fernando, Adriel Intong contributed 14 and Jhon Carl Soreso added 10.

The loss is a huge blow to Naga City that’s vying for the second Bracket 1 spot with Minglanilla. The five-minute re-play of their controversial game is crucial for both teams in order to advance to the next stage.

Meanwhile up north, Poro walked away with a close 77-75 win over San Francisco in its North Division Bracket 2 opener. Borbon also survived Catmon with a tight 83-76 victory in the other Bracket 2 game. /
