Cebu squad takes top spot

The Cebu Province men’s volleyball team continued its stellar run and won its fifth straight game against 8x8, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20, in the 1st Mayors Cup Volleyball Tournament at the University of San Carlos (USC) gym yesterday.

Cebu Province tops the division at 5-0 and is followed by University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) with a 3-1 win-loss slate.

The Cebu Province team is already assured of a slot in the semifinals, which will start on Tuesday.

The University of Cebu (UC) women’s team, on the other hand, captured its first victory after the games with a triumph over MGC-New Life Christian Academy, 24-26, 25-17, 25-18.

The visiting team from Manila MGC NLCA, composed of senior high school players, dropped to a 0-3 card.

The UC men’s team won via default over Techno to improve to 1-2 card, while Techno dropped to 0-3.

Cebrus men’s team also won by default over the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-). Cebrus has a 1-2 card while USPF was booted out with 0-4 slate.

Meanwhile, SWU (0-2) will face the South Spikers (0-1) in the women’s division today, while USC (2-0) battles MGC-NLCA.

In the men’s division, SWU (3-0) takes on Techno (0-3), UC faces University of Bohol (2-2), and Cebrus (1-2) takes on 8x8.
