Barili, Alegria stay unbeaten in Gov. Cup, advance to quarterfinal round

Barili and Alegria clinched the top seeding of their groups in the South Division after going unbeaten in the elimination round of the Governor’s Cup 2018 Basketball Tournament.

Barili beat Dumanjug, 99-96, in Bracket 4 in the Aloguinsan Gym, thanks to a total team performance. Charlie Sabanal led the team with 20 points, Lee Baybayanon added 15, Mike Bayaton had 13, Wilson Cabasag chipped in 12, Joshua Bayating scored 11, and Deneare Aguilar contributed 10.

It was a two-man show for Dumanjug with a 37-point performance by Arnold Villaroso, while Clester Quinanola exploded for 24 markers.

Aloguinsan trampled Moalboal, 113-80, in the other Bracket 4 game.

Barili finished the group stage with a 4-0 slate. Despite the defeat, Dumanjug clinched the other quarterfinals slot with a 3-1 record.

Alegria also completed a sweep of Bracket 3 after an 82-71 win over Ginatilan at the Badian Municipal Gym. Christian Garcia was Alegria’s leading scorer with 21 markers. Patrick Devila and Cris Garcia shared the offensive load with 18 points each, while Norbeth Lendio added 10.

Hanzel Tagoo had 21 points in a losing effort by Ginatilan. Maximo Quinopa chipped in 15, while Junrell Oracoy had 12.

Alegria finished the elimination round with a perfect 5-0 slate and earned the top seed of Bracket 3. Ginatilan also moved on to the next round with a 3-2 slate.

Oslob edged out Santander, 74-72, while Badian outclassed Samboan 92-64.
