SATISFACTION WITH DUTERTE GOV’T. DROPS BY 2 DIGITS

-

Social Weather Station’s March 23 to 27 poll shows 69 percent of adult Filipinos still satisfied with administration, but that is 12% down from +70% in last quarter of 2017

A double-digit decline in public satisfaction with the performance of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration was noted in the first quarter of 2018, the Social Weather Stations (SWS) revealed in its March 23 to 27 poll.

According to the SWS survey, around 69 percent of 1,200 adult Filipinos remained satisfied with the Duterte government’s performance, 11 percent were dissatisfied, and 18 percent were unsure.

This resulted in a net satisfaction score of “very good” +58, a 12-percentage-point decline from +70 and a notch lower from the “excellent” grade in the fourth quarter of 2017.

The SWS attributed the drop to the double-digit declines in net satisfaction scores in Balance Luzon, Mindanao, and Metro Manila, combined with a steady rating in Visayas.

The government’s net satisfaction rating remained “exellent” in Mindanao, but fell by 15 percentage points from the “record-high” +87 in December last year to +72 in March this year.

The poll noted that the net satisfaction scores were down by 17 percentage points and 13 percentage points, respectively, in Balance Luzon (“very good” +67 to “very good” +50) and Metro Manila (“excellent” +71 to “very good” +58).

Declines were also noted across the different social classes: +56 from +62 in classes ABC; +58 from “excellent” +71 for class D; and +54 from +66 for class E.

Duterte’s government posted declines, but “very good” scores among non-elementary graduates (+59 from “excellent” +71), elementary graduates (+56 from +68), and high school graduates (+54 from “excellent” +70). It retained an “excellent” rating among college graduates, from +73 in December 2017 to +72 in March 2018.

The SWS also revealed that the national government’s net satisfaction scores among men and women were “excellent” +60 and “very good” +55, respectively.

In a statement released Friday, May 11, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. said the government was still thankful for receiving a “very good” net satisfaction rating.

“We remain grateful to our people for giving the Duterte administration a ‘very good’ +58 net satisfaction rating,” the Palace official said.

“Rest assured that the Duterte administration would continue to champion the interests of the greatest number of our countrymen, particularly in redoubling our efforts in ensuring that no Filipino family will ever be hungry,” he added.

The SWS interviewed 1,200 respondents for the survey, using sampling error margins of ±3 percentage points for national percentages, and ±6 percentage points each for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
