More than words

- MONICA R. LOPEZ / Writer and photographer

Dear Diary—two words that seem so silly but nevertheless words to start with as one pours out one’s joys, woes and deepest thoughts on an inanimate object—in neat handwriting—then stored safely away from prying eyes.

But things are different this time as people who dabble in such have learned to get creative and discover the creative possibilities.

Specialty store Scribe presented such with its two-day event “Beyond Imagination” last April 21 to 22 at SM City Cebu’s The Northwing atrium. The event presented the store’s various writing products from notebooks, stationery, premium quality pens, paints, and other accessories for one’s writing needs.

“The event is about having no limitations, enhancing their creativity and encouraging people to think beyond their imagination,” said Scribe’s marketing manager, Dar Oro.

There was also the showcasing of the traveling Hobonichi, a project Scribe launched last January. Think “Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants”—in journal form. Users from different parts of the country each get a week and eight pages to get creative and express themselves in this journal.

Art workshops, capsule classes and art presentations by creative talents were also part of the experience: Wilbert Wee taught animal watercolor on painting; AJ Tabino taught modern calligraphy; Aina Reyes-Paco discussed bullet and travel journaling and Marryl Erojo talked about mixed media journaling and a beginner’s guide to journaling.

Journaling is different now compared to how it was done in the past as it is more than just words on a notebook. While a journal may still contain secrets in an entry or two, it tells tales in colorful and elaborative fashion, all thanks to one’s imagination.
