FORMER SENATE PRESIDENT EDGARDO ANGARA PASSES AWAY AT 83

Sen. Sonny Angara announced that his father, former Senate president Edgardo Angara, passed away yesterday due to an “apparent heart attack.” He was 83. “Sad to say my father former Sen Edgardo Javier Angara passed on from this life this morning at the age of 83, from an apparent heart attack,” the younger Angara said in a Twitter post. He said their family is still making funeral arrangemen­ts. For now, he asks the public to pray for the eternal repose of his father’s soul.

Former Senate President Edgardo Angara passed away on Sunday, May 13, from an “apparent heart attack.” He was 83.

This was confirmed by his son Senator Sonny Angara.

“Sad to say my father former Sen Edgardo Javier Angara passed on from this life this morning at the age of 83, from an apparent heart attack,” the younger Angara said in a Twitter post.

In another post, Angara said they are still arranging funeral arrangemen­ts for his father.

“We ask for prayers for the repose of his soul,” he added.

Angara, who served as senator from 1987 to 1995 and from 2001 to 2013, was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as special envoy to the European Union in May 2017.

He ran for vice president in 1998 but lost to then senator Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Angara was part of former President Joseph Estrada’s Cabinet as Agricultur­e Secretary from 1999 to 2001 and Executive Secretary in 2001.
