2.9T candidates for brgy., SK polls run unopposed

More than 2,900 candidates for the barangay and Sanggunian­g Kabataan elections today only need one vote to win.

Cebu Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Lionel Marco Castillano said these candidates are running unopposed.

“There must still be one vote to justify his election,” Castillano told Superbalit­a Cebu yesterday.

Of the more than 2,900 candidates who have no opponents, 236 of them are running for barangay captain, 84 for barangay councilor, 258 for SK chairperso­n, and more than 2,300 for SK members.

In Cebu City, those who are running unopposed are the SK candidates in Barangays Lahug and Kalubihan.

In Lapu-Lapu City, those who are unopposed are the candidates for village chiefs in Barangays San Vicente, Babag, Cawhagan, Ibo, Subabasbas, Tungasan as well as the candidates for councilors in San Vicente.

Six candidates for SK chairperso­n, on the other hand, in Barangays Babag, Cawhagan, Ibo, Santa Rosa, San Vicente, and Tingo and 49 candidates for SK members in the said villages, including Barangay Baring, also have no opponents.

In Mandaue City, those who have no opponents are the candidates for barangay captains in Casuntinga­n and Centro and the SK chairperso­n in Barangays Cambaro and Casuntinga­n.

Also running unopposed are the candidates for SK members in the said villages.

Argao has the biggest number of candidates who have no opponents: 19 for barangay captains, seven for barangay councilors, 12 for SK chairperso­n and 113 for SK members.

Castillano believes that these candidates, especially for the barangay polls, have no opponents because of their good performanc­e

There are 37,891 individual­s in the entire Cebu who filed their certificat­es of candidacy for todays elections.
