Father-daughter tandem

MOVIE. The filming here in Cebu of the movie “Jacqueline Comes Home” has ended but a few remaining sequences will be shot in Manila. This, I gathered from Ysabelle Peach Caparas who has been given the directorial assignment by her famous dad, director Carlo J. Caparas. He is also the film producer.

PASSION. I have witnessed Peach at work. She has the passion to fulfill her task—a baptism of fire, according to her—that she successfully accomplished. Peach as director is a perfectionist just like her dad. Let’s expect an excellent production of the flick based on the 1997 Chiong sisters abduction. It was a very sensational case since it also involved the mysterious death of the judge that handled it.

HOPE. However, “Jacqueline Comes Home” doesn’t touch on the legal angle of the entire incident. It shows more of a family’s lamentation, hope and dream of finally finding one of the two sisters. I won’t spoil the thrill. It’s better to watch the movie once it gets a fixed playdate in cinemas.

VOW. Happily, the father and daughter tandem vowed they will be doing more films here in the future, meaning local stars are to be involved in them. We, Cebuanos, should commend them for such commitment. Hopefully, it would signal the start of the resurrection of the local movie industry.

CHEERS. Let me congratulate the leaders of the newly created Association for Philippines-China Understanding that will have their oathtaking ceremony on Saturday at Bai Hotel in Mandaue City. The national chairperson is former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the Cebu chapter president is Rep. Gwen Garcia. This event is by invitation only.
