AboitizPower launches solar rooftop project
Listed company AboitizPower (AP) recently launched its first rooftop solar project in Cebu City, marking its entry into the small-scale market segment.
Run by AP’s new unit, AboitizPower Distributed Energy Inc. (APX) began operating the 100-kilowatt (KW) installation on the rooftop of Aboitiz and Co.’s (ACO) south building last March.
ACO is located along Gov. Manuel A. Cuenco Ave. in Barangay Kasambagan.
It has since been delivering clean and renewable energy to building tenants like ACO, AP, AboitizLand, and Pilmico, among others.
“We want to show customers our confidence in the technology and its capability by putting it on our own roof,” said APX general manager Jose Rafael Mendoza, in a statement.
Mendoza said he hopes this latest project will encourage others to pursue their own sustainability efforts.
The APX official said they can help customers meet their requirements and secure a longterm partnership on the back of AP’s more than 80-year experience in the power industry.
AP first entered the solar power market in 2016 with its 59-megawatt peak San Carlos Sun (Sacasun) project in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
Through its Cleanergy brand, AP and its partners now have a net sellable capacity of 1,272 MW.
The company has a wide portfolio of renewable energy plants under Cleanergy, which includes geothermal, run-of-river hydro, and large hydropower facilities all over the country.
Besides the first roof top solar installation in Cebu, the company is also looking at several other projects in Luzon and Visayas, some of which are set for completion in 2018. /
