Hinunangan to host 1st marathon, regatta

Hinunangan, Southern Leyte, will be hosting the first ever Hinunangan Bay Marathon and First balik Baroto Regatta for the celebratio­n of their 165th founding anniversar­y on June 24.

Executive Chairman Dir. David Odilao, the brainchild behind the event, wanted to put Hinunangan in the tourism map with the events.

Municipal mayor Reynaldo Fernandez also supported the event to help promote his town.

With the closure of Boracay, Fernandez wants tourists to know that there is a hidden gem in Southern Leyte in Hinunangan.

The First Hinunangan Bay marathon will feature three categories and 2 Divisions to be play. Full marathon is 42.195 kms with the registrati­on fee of P1,500, half marathon is 21kms and the fee is P1000.00 and the 9km run is P 500.00. The fee includes the singlet, race number and gift packs. All winners will be receiving trophies, medals and cash prizes. Race director Joe Deresas said they are expecting around 1,000 runners.

For the Hinunangan Bay Balik Baroto Regatta, registrati­on per barrota is P10,000 and it is open category. They are expecting 5060 participan­ts in race.

In connection to their sponsor, Jose Emery Roble, the owner of Roble shipping lines said that there will be 50 percent off for all participat­s’ boat ride.

Registrati­on starts today at Philippine Sports Comission office at Cebu City Sports Center until June 17. . /
