Carcar rallies, takes Game 1

-

Carcar City rallied from being down two sets and fashioned out a come-from-behind win over Argao, 18-25, 15-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-25, in Game 1 of South Division Finals of the 1st Governor’s Cup Volleyball Tournament.

The Carcar City volleybelles had their backs against the wall after the first two sets, but were able to recover and managed to take the next three sets to draw first blood in the best-of-three finals at the Carcar City Sports Complex last Wednesday night.

Being down by two sets did not dampen the spirits of Carcar and forced Argao to a slide-two in the third, 26-24 and had a close call in the fourth, 25-23, to force for a deciding fifth set.

Carcar City, which finished the quarterfinals with a clean 5-0 win-lose record, completed the comeback with a 15-10 score to take the victory and to protect its home turf.

The game shifts to Argao for Game 2 with Carcar holding a 1-0 lead.

Argao, meanwhile, will battle for the survival on Game 2 at the Cerge Remonde Cultural & Sports Complex in Argao at 7 p.m. tonight. Argao will try to extend the series to win or go home Game 3.

On the other hand, Mandaue City and Catmon are playing Game 1 of the North Division Finals as of press time at the Mandaue City Cultural Sports Complex. The Game 2 will be on Friday night at Catmon Municipal Gym.

The North division and South division champions will battle for the coveted 1st Governor’s Cup Volleyball Tournament title and the P300,000 cash prize. /
