■ WIN OR LOSE, GET THOSE CAMPAIGN POSTERS DOWN BY MAY 28 IN MANDAUE CITY

-

Mandaue City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing gave candidates until Monday, May 28, to remove all their campaign posters and other materials, otherwise they will face complaints.

“They have to get their campaign posters on Monday or else I will file a case. To be clear, our priority is the removal of posters along the alleyways, roads, and other common poster areas,” Quisumbing said in his press conference yesterday.

Before the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections last May 14, the mayor had warned all candidates to remove all the campaign materials in the week after the election, win or lose.

“We expect all the candidates to take down their posters because they ran for office on the assumption that they want to serve the city and help in our efforts and policies, especially in the field of clean and green (programs),” the mayor said.

The failure to remove campaign materials, which end up creating “visual clutter”, violates Section 1-N of the Anti-Littering Ordinance approved in 2006, explained Architect Aracelli Barlam, who heads Mandaue’s City Environment and Natural Resources Office.

Violators of that ordinance may be fined P5,000, Barlam said.

If the person responsible for placing posters and other materials outside the common poster areas can’t be confirmed, the person whose name and image appears in the poster will be held responsible, Barlam added.
