Zuñiga sings ‘Pero Atik Ra’

DUET. Something “big” is happening to the Cebuano/Visayan music industry. No less than Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icon Nonoy Zuñiga has recorded the Jude Gitamondoc hit composition “Pero Atik Ra,” which was originally sung by Sinulog Idol grand winner Jacky Chang. This time, however, Nonoy did the song as a duet version with Cebuano songbird Jolianne Salvado, “The Voice Kids” 2015 star.

COMMENDABLE. I commend Nonoy, a nonCebuano singer, for his decision to record—for the very first time ever in his career—this local composition as his way of helping promote Cebuano/Visayan music in Manila and other parts of the country. And I should also laud his manager, Tita Nelia Lim, for the effort in realizing this venture. Two thumbs up for her.

AGREE. I also fully agree with Tita Nelia’s contention that OPM doesn’t only mean Tagalog and English songs. OPM also includes Cebuano, Waray, Ilonggo, Boholano and other Visayan dialects as lyrics. Hopefully, “Pero Atik Ra” could easily penetrate the Tagalog-speaking areas that are actually having large Cebuano communities.

SUPPORT. So let’s support this Zuñiga-Salvado duet version of “Pero Atik Ra” by telling our friends here and abroad to hear it via Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, Deezer, Google Play, Amazon and over 350 digital stores worldwide. Hopefully, Nonoy will be doing more Cebuano/Visayan songs in the immediate future.
