Wife falls for maligning ‘mistress’ on Facebook

-

Alexandra (real name withheld), heartbroken, vented her anger against the alleged mistress of her husband on Facebook, cursing her and calling her names.

The suspected paramour, however, may have the last laugh. Alexandra, who lives in Barangay San Pedro Bingag, Dauis, Bohol, was arrested last Tuesday.

Chief Insp. Leo Dofiles, Regional Anti-Cybercrime Office (RACO) 7 commander, said that the freedom of speech has its limits and should not be abused by anyone.

“Other persons have their own rights to protect,” he said in Cebuano.

Dofiles said Alexandra could have filed complaints against Donna (real name withheld) if she had evidence on Donna’s al- leged affair with her husband.

The police official said a social media user should think before posting any damaging statements, pictures or videos online.

Donna, a Cebu City resident, sought the help of RACO 7 after she read Alexandra’s post, which was public, meaning anyone on Facebook could read it.

Donna, for her part, denied being the mistress of Alexandra’s husband.

“To make the public post in Facebook certainly besmirched my reputation as someone with questionable morals and integrity,” she said in her affidavit.

“She even humiliated my grandmother who was already of frail health and referred to her and my family as demons,” she added.

The arrest was based on a warrant issued by Cebu City Regional Trial Court Branch 12 Judge Estela Alma Singco, who set bail at P10,000.

Dofiles said his office has filed several online libel complaints, but last Tuesday’s arrest was his first in terms of implementing a warrant issued by a court. /
