BUSINESSMAN GUNNED DOWN BY HIS BROTHER

-

A businessman was shot dead by his own brother inside their store on Osmeña Blvd., Cebu City yesterday afternoon. Cris Gerald Gopuco, 44, was allegedly shot by his older brother Roy Vincent, 47, who lived behind their shop. The brothers ran MRC Mercantile, a store selling acrylic plastic sheets. SPO2 Winston Ybañez, homicide investigator of the Cebu City Police Office, said Rey shot Cris in the head and his body using a caliber 9mm. Divino Mondido, the family’s helper, said they heard three gunshots and when he went out of the shop, he saw Cris lying in a pool of blood. Cris was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead. Mondido said in an interview with Superbalita Cebu that he believed Roy was afraid that their father would find out about the huge losses in their business’ income. “Mao siguro na ilang gilalisan nga daghan og order unya gamay ra ang misulod ba katong ang maguwang pa ang nagdala aning tindahan. Nahadlok na siguro na siya nga nahibal-an na sa manghod ang dakong nadispalko sa maguwang,” Mondido said. Mondido said they couldn’t believe what happened since the brothers were close. Cris and Roy’s cousin, Teddy Gopuco Jr., said he was shocked because he did not hear the brothers fight since Cris took over the business. The brothers were close and helped each other run the business, Teddy said. Atty. Maria Theresa Macatangay, the Fuente Police chief, said Roy surrendered to authorities hours after the shooting.
