Nearly P7M in shabu seized; college student among suspects
Almost P7 million worth of illegal drugs were confiscated by anti-drug operatives from three persons in separate operations in Barangay Mambaling and Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City.
The Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (DEG) and the City Intelligence Branch (CIB) of the Cebu City Police Office arrested Pejay Villanueva and Henry Tabalin in Sitio Kamansi, Barangay Mambaling on Saturday afternoon, allegedly with P5.9 million worth of shabu.
“The arrested drug personalities are members of a big-time illegal drug group in Region 7,” the DEG said.
Supt. Cristopher Navida, chief of the CIB, said that Villanueva and Tabalin were both high-value targets, level 1.
“They’re the subject of the buy-busts. Tabalin has a relative who is still at large for the crime of murder. We were already monitoring them,” Navida said.
Shabu weighing 500 grams were seized from the two.
“We believe that they have a drug network of pushers who will be the one to dispose of the shabu, considering the quantity of drugs confiscated from them,” Navida said.
With the arrests, Navida said that the police are gaining ground in the anti-drug campaign, especially in gaining trust from the community.
“Some of our arrested persons were tipped to us by residents in the area,” Navida said.
An 18-year-old college student of a computer programming course was arrested for having an estimated P1 million worth of shabu in Riverside, Barangay Duljo-Fatima.
Seized from Riza Cabigon, 18, were 85 grams of shabu with a Dangerous Drugs Board value of P1,003,000.
They will be facing charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
