Warriors dump CIT

The University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors fashioned out an 81-71 win over the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats to start its campaign in the 2018 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) pre-season on a winning note in the Cebu Coliseum yesterday.

JohnRel Saycon scored 33 points to lead the Warriors, while Kent Cabañog added 11 points. The Warriors had a masterful 10-3 run in the final three minutes of the game to put away the Wildcats, 77-67.

The Wildcats tried to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter and trimmed the gap to three, 6467, with 5:40 left in the game before the Warriors answered with their own 10-3 rally.

Mark Kong and Kevin Oledo combined for 26 points for the Wildcats.

It was a double victory for USC, as earlier the USC Baby Warriors escaped the Wildkitten­s, 68-64. Carl Cabulao led the Baby Warriors with 12 points.

In the other game, the University of Southern Philippine­s-Foundation (USP-F) Baby Panthers upset the defending champion University of Visayas (UV) Baby Green Lancers, 78-73.

Rojan Montemayor led the charge for the Baby Panthers with 28 points while Cris Isabelo handed 16 points. UV’s Joshua Yerro’s scored 17 points in a losing effort and Andrew Actub chipped in 12 points.

Meanwhile, the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters will face the Southweste­rn University-Phinma Cobras in the college division today, while Cebu Eastern College (CEC) takes on UC in the high school division.
