Villarin, Chepsiror win DYAB Kapamilya 21K Run

Evamie Villarin and Eric Chepsiror ruled the women’s and men’s 21-kilometer race in the 2018 DYAB Kapamilya Run that started and ended outside the Ayala Terraces yesterday.

Villarin clocked 1 hour, 34 minutes and 31 seconds to win the women’s 21K race with more than a 12-minute gap from the closest pursuers Sandra Soliano and Rhea Mae Garocho, who timed 1:46:38 and 1:48:34, respective­ly.

Chepsiror finished the half-marathon in 1:13:47 to win the men’s division. Prince Joey Lee nabbed second place in 1:16:51 followed by Florentino Lapis in 1:18:23.

Ruffa Sorongon won the women’s 12K about two weeks after placing fourth in the 21K race of the 23rd Jeju Internatio­nal Tourism Marathon Festival in South Korea.

Sorongon clocked 56:39, beating Angel Estellore by a minute. Jessa Hellacone placed third in 58:41.

The Kenyans showed their force in the men’s 12K with a 1-2 finish by Eliud Kering and James Mebei with times of 42:45 and 45:02. Arnel Florentino was third in 45:29.

Ariel Saballa and Joan Alinsunod of City of Naga captured the men’s and women’s 6K titles. Saballa clocked 21:31 and Alinsunod finished the race in 25:16.

Adrian Baguio (21:32) and Harold Kim Guiao (21:46) were the runners-up in the men’s 6K division, while Grace Tejones (25:28) and junior triathlete Mariel Estreba (25:53) in the women’s side.

The fastest runners in the 3K were Darwin Lucaylucay Jr. (10:29) in the men’s division and Louraine Yvonne Garcia (12:08) in the women’s side. /
