-

The Cebu Landmasters-University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors and the M. Lhuillier University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters remained unbeaten in the collegiate division of the 2018 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Partners’ Cup with contrasting wins yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.

USC walked away with a tight 67-63 victory over Casino Active-University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, pulling away in the second quarter after an impressive performance by John Reel Saycon.

Saycon scored 10 points in the second for a 34-24 at halftime.

However, USJ-R, made it interesting in the fourth, trimming the lead to two before a split charity by Lucky Ecarma made it 66-63.

After Saycon missed both of his free throws, Jaybee Mantill had a chance to tie the game with a three but he threw an air ball. USJ-R had another opportunity with a three-pointer by Tricky Peromingan but his shot bounced off the rim.

Saycon was fouled and he split his free throws for the final tally.

Saycon was the only Warrior in double figures with 17 points. Kent Cabañog and Luigi Gabison added eight points each, whille led USJ-R with 14 points.

UC, on the other hand, outclassed Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wild Cats, 77-55.

It was close at the onset with CIT-U taking close 11-10 lead after a quarter of action.

John Calvin Jabello, however, led UC’s offense in the second half with nine points for a 34-20 lead at halftime.

Frederick Elombi and Justine Dacalos continued the onslaught after the break to start the third with a 14-2 run for a 26-point lead, 48-22. /
