Lapu forms task force to protect shoreline

-

The Lapu-Lapu City Government has formed Task Force Shoreline to make sure that establishments will keep the shore clean and not violate the three-meter easement rule.

Mayor Paz Radaza said that the purpose of Executive Order No. 2018-18, which created the task force, is to protect the environment.

The task force members are Radaza, the city administrator, city planning officer, city engineer, tourism office, City Environment and Natural Resources Office, City Health Office, Urban Poor Affairs Office, and the City Legal Office, among others.

Since last week, the City has already demolished more than 100 structures on the shoreline of Barangay Ibo that violated the three-meter easement.

Radaza believes that the demolition of the more than 600 illegal structures in the city’s coastal area will be completed in two weeks.

Radaza, however, said that the personnel of the City are facing challenges in tearing down the structures, particularly during high tide.

She said that some of the members of the demolition team got hurt.

After the demolition in Barangay Ibo, Radaza said that the City will tear down next the illegal structures in Sitio Sta. Maria in Barangay Pusok.

Affected families have already been given notice by the City Attorney’s Office, she said. /
