Retired cops warned vs. crime syndicates
Beware, retired officers.
Police Regional Office 7 Director Debold Sinas said that crime groups might hit back at them when they leave the service.
“Pag-retire sa pulis, sa kadaghan sa iyang trabaho, duna siya’y nabangga along the way. Naghulat lang nga mag-relax siya (Criminals are just waiting for the police official to retire),” he said.
Last Sunday night, retired senior police officer 2 Ranilo Quingco Valiente, 47, was shot dead by riding-in-tandem assassins in Purok 6 Mahogany, Barangay Cubacub, Mandaue City.
The victim is the second former police officer shot dead in 113 days in Mandaue City. Last March 2, ex-SPO1 Rey Manatad was shot dead in Barangay Canduman.
Manatad, before he left the service, tested positive of drug use in 2016, which caused his transfer to the Cordilleras.
In Valiente’s case, Sinas said investigators have not received any report that the victim was involved in illegal activities.
“Basin naa siya’y nabangga nga sindikato or what, tapos nakita nga nag-retire na siya, nag-relax. That’s I always remind my people to be very careful. Kon planohon ka, planohon man gyod ka (Maybe he antagonized a criminal syndicate before),” he said.
Before Valiente was shot, investigators learned he was sitting beside motorcycle-for-hire driver Jason Mayola by the roadside.
They were talking when the assailants arrived and shot Valiente several times. Mayola was wounded by a stray bullet.
Seven empty shells from a .45 pistol were recovered from the crime scene.
Valiente reportedly opted for early retirement in 2017.
The motive behind the attack is still under investigation.
