Outgoing ABC chief wants to run for city councilor

- JKV

The outgoing president of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) in Talisay City is planning to run for city councilor in next year’s midterm elections.

Bulacao Barangay Captain Raul Cabañero made the announcement as he approached the end of his term as ABC chief.

Cabañero was honored by fellow councilors with a ceremonial send-off last Tuesday, when his contributions and achievements as member of the City Council in the past five years were recognized. The ABC chief sits as an ex-officio member of the legislative body.

With his stint as barangay captain ending on June 30, Cabañero told reporters he wants to see his chances if he would run for city councilor.

Cabañero, like all members of the City Council, is affiliated with the administration’s Alayon Party.

Rep. Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas, who will be running for city mayor next year, admitted that while Cabañero is a good candidate for city councilor, he only heard of his plan to run for the position now.

While they have two slots available since the terms of Councilors Richard Francis Aznar and Val Ylanan are ending, Gullas said they already have identified people to fill these spots.

Aznar’s father, Ricky, will run in his place while Ylanan’s wife, Ofelia, will also run in his stead.

Gullas said they will need to consult the group on Cabañero’s plan. /

We will consult with our leaders regarding his intention to run.

REP. SAMSAM GULLAS Cebu, 1st district
