TALLO SUSPENDED FOR THREAT VS. REF
Cesafi commissioner suspends CEC assistant coach for the rest of the Partner’s Cup for threatening referee
The Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. has suspended Cebu Eastern College assistant coach Mark Anthony Tallo for the rest of the Partner’s Cup tournament after figuring in an incident with a referee during the Dragons’ close loss to the University of San Carlos last June 21.
An investigation by Cesafi proved that Tallo challenged referee Herbet Rosal to a fistfight after he was called for a technical foul in the third quarter. According to their investigation, Tallo continued to complain after he got a technical and was assessed with another, leading to an ejection.
“After the incident, I told the referee to submit a report to Commissioner Tiukinhoy. I think he was in Vietnam at that time and only arrived last Tuesday,” assistant commissioner Danny Duran told SunStar Superbalita.
The decision came out yesterday.
Aside from the suspension for the rest of the pre-season tournament, Tallo was also fined P5,000 and must render four hours of community service.
“The commissioner found coach Mark Tallo guilty of threatening the referee Herbert Rosal to box him outside the court,” Tiukinhoy said in his statement.
Superbalita tried to contact Tallo for his side of the story but all his contact numbers couldn’t be reached.
The Dragons hold a 1-3 record in the elimination round with two more games to play. He will miss the game against the University of San Jose-Recoletos today.
In the other high school game, USC will take on the University of Southern Philippiens Foundation, while in the main game, undefeated USPF will face fellow leader University of the Visayas for the top spot. Both teams have a 3-0 record. /
