Dumpit received the Medalya ng Papuri (commendation medal) on Sept. 27, 2017 from Chief Supt. Jose Mario Espino, the former PRO 7 director; since 2002, he received a total of 10 commendation medals; three medals of merit in 2005 and 2008; a wounded personnel medal in 2006; and six e iciency medals in 2007, 2016 and 2017

There will be no honors for SPO1 Adonis Dumpit and no benefits for his family.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Chief Supt. Debold Sinas described the 55-year-old officer, who was supposed to retire next year, as a bad example.

However, he clarified that Dumpit’s family will receive the cash equivalent of his unused leaves.

Sinas said he ordered the Bohol Police Provincial Office and the PRO 7 headquarters not to honor Dumpit, who was killed last Wednesday in a shootout with a team from the National Bureau of Investigation 7-Bohol and PRO 7-Regional Intelligence Division in Tagbilaran City.

In his colorful career, Dumpit received the Medalya ng Papuri (commendation medal) on Sept. 27, 2017 from Chief Supt. Jose Mario Espino, the former PRO 7 director.

The sharpshooting officer received a total of 10 commendation medals since 2002: three medals of merit in 2005 and 2008; a wounded personnel medal in 2006; and six efficiency medals in 2007, 2016 and 2017.

Despite Sinas’s order not to give honors to Dumpit, the Philippine flag is draped on his casket. The PRO 7 did not place it there.

Section 24 of Republic Act 8491, or the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines, states: “The flag may be used to cover the caskets of the honored dead of the military, veterans of previous wars, national artists, and of civilians who have rendered distinguished service to the nation, as maybe determined by the local government unit concerned.”

Meanwhile, Sinas said that the .45 pistol recovered from Dumpit is registered to Tejero, Cebu City Barangay Captain Jessielou Cadungog. Dumpit had no government-issued firearm.

As for the motorcycle used by Dumpit, it is reportedly owned by a certain Jade Daño of Barangay Mabolo.

In a phone interview, Cadungog confirmed that he used to own the gun, but he sold it to Dumpit sometime last year for P75,000. He said Dumpit gave him P25,000 as down payment, adding that the latter still owed him the balance.

Cadungog said he has a deed of sale to prove the transaction. An incoming councilor in Tejero and an ally of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, Cadungog said he will face any investigation that the NBI 7 and PRO 7 will conduct.
