Tuburan Mayor Democrito “Aljun” Diamante is asking the Department of Public and Highways (DPWH) to form a team that will inspect all road projects in Cebu.
This, after President Rodrigo Duterte directed DPWH Secretary Mark Villar to visit and check conditions of the roads in Bohol amid reports that road repair projects are being implemented even on roads still in good condition.
Diamante said the situation is also common in Cebu, particularly in the different towns, and it would be better if Villar will include them in his visit.
“Most of the projects of DPWH, they will destroy the roads and after that, it will take them some time to complete it,” he said.
Diamante believes that the matter should be investigated and there should be an audit on all road projects.
The mayor said that Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III and representatives in each district in the province should help in the creation of the team.
“In my town, the construction of a controversial bridge there was really delayed. The project was awarded March 2013 and it

was supposed to be completed by September 2013 but until August of 2014, it was still not completed even if we already paid 77 percent out of the total cost of the project,” he said.
Regional Development Council 7 co-chairman Kenneth Cobonpue announced during their second full council meeting in Tagbilaran City, Bohol yesterday the President’s instruction to Secretary Villar.
He said the President wants the people to be informed about DPWH projects.
Aside from road project audit, Diamante, who also serves as the president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines, said they passed a resolution requesting the National Government to download to different local government units (LGU) infrastructure projects that are below P10 million.
He believes that the LGUs are capable of implementing such projects.
