Carcar City to inaugurate P300M new public market

- JKV

The Carcar City Government will kick off tomorrow the activities for its 11th Charter Day celebration.

Part of this year’s activities include the blessing and inauguration of a P300-million new public market located behind the new Carcar City Hall.

Mayor Nicepuro Apura said this year will be his last year to celebrate the city’s Charter Day as local chief executive since he will be ending his term next year.

Apura said the inauguration of the new public market, which is located in Barangay Poblacion 3, will be held on July 7.

The two-storey market was funded through a P600-million loan that the City availed itself of from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) in 2015.

The loan was also used for the construction of the new Carcar City Hall and a terminal in the city center.

The three structures constitute the first phase of the new Carcar City Center.

Apura said they decided to transfer the public market to the new city center as the old one was marred by problems such as flooding during rainy season.

The new market is composed of two buildings: the wet and dry market section and the commercial spaces section.

The wet and dry market is where the City Government will house the 400 market vendors doing business in the old market near the old Carcar rotunda.

The second building will house establishments selling products and services that are not being sold in the wet and dry market.

Once the market becomes operational in November, legitimate vendors will benefit from a oneyear moratorium on the payment of market fees, Apura assured.

Aside from the blessing and inauguration of the new market, Apura will deliver his final State of the City Address on July 7.
