Ursula and Morgana: Sisters in hate

- TESSA FRANCES T. AGUILAR, USJ-R INTERN

Let’s face it: we all have brother or sister rivalries, from the brother who gets the most toys, the sister who wins at every puzzle game and the youngest who always gets away with trouble by simply batting an eye.

But no sibling feud can rival that of Morgana and Ursula.

The two of the most evil Cecaelias (half human and half octopus) known in the seven seas are feared for their cunning magic that tricks and punishes unfortunate souls who dare to ask something from them. These sea witches might be sisters, coming from a horrible mother, but they can never get along.

Ursula is the oldest and managed to trick Princess Ariel into giving up her voice for human legs. Morgana, on the other hand, chose to trick Princess Ariel’s daughter Melody, giving her a taste of life under the sea if she would steal Triton’s trident for her and prove she is better than Ursula.

Although they both caused a lot of trouble, both failed in their attempts.

Hating each other, these two obviously had childhood issues that no sibling should ever have. The two should serve as a warning that no matter how tough it is to get along with family, love and not rivalry will carry you through.

So which sister is the worst? You be the judge. Catch Ursula in Disney’s The Little Mermaid then catch Morgana in The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea.
