INDIE-PRENEURS EXPECTED AT SUMMIT
Ocean Summit will come up with policy reforms in the creative economy, education, global Filipino movement, healthcare and tourism
Organizers of this year’s Ocean Summit aim to submit policy reforms to the government in six key areas that make an impact on the nation’s growth.
These are creative economy, education, global Filipino movement, healthcare and tourism.
Ocean (Open Collaboration for East Asian New Champions) is a biennial gathering in the Philippines that connects cross-sector leaders to new ideas that will shape the country’s future. It is an extension of Wold Economic Forum (WEF) in East Asia.
Anchored on the theme “Elevating homegrown innovation”, this year’s summit, which will be held in Cebu, will have two parts— a seminar workshop on July 27 and a summit slated this November.
Ocean 18 chairman Winston Damarillo yesterday said they are bringing back to Cebu the conference that served as the platform that engages global and local Filipino “change-makers.” “For this year, we are pushing for homegrown innovation to help protect, grow and make our own industries sustainable,” said Damarillo, a venture capitalist and a WEF young global leader.
He said the summit will host discussions that will help entrepreneurs grow and influence policymakers to shape the future of the Philippines.
At least 100 individual entrepreneurs or indie-preneurs are expected to join the first phase of Ocean 18 this July.
It will be attended by mentors from Asian Institute of Management who will also conduct workshops to help these indie-preneurs from across the country get the right tools and direction to grow their industries.
Ceeli Martinez-Miranda, co-founder of Create Cebu, said they want to address the pressing concerns of these six industries.
She specifically cited the goal of the country to become a lead- er in the global creative economy.
Damarillo, on the other hand, cited discussions to center on tapping the overseas Filipino market as new buyers of Philippine exports. /
