PALACE FORBIDS ‘EXTRAVAGANT' ATTIRE IN SONA
Malacañang yesterday reminded guests that they could not don an “extravagant” outfit. Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. said there are many ways for Sona attendees to become “elegant” without being clad in a glamorous attire. “Bawal ang extravagant [attire]. But they have their ways to become elegant. So let them be with their ways,” the Palace official said. (Extravagant [attire] is not allowed. But they have their ways to become elegant. So let them be with their ways.) Lawmakers and other Sona guests have traditionally flaunted their gowns during the grand red carpet fashion show. Duterte, however, has since changed the dress code for Sona to business attire as he prefers a “simple” annual event. Sona guests have been discouraged to wear tuxedos, evening gowns, or any elaborate outfits and are instead urged to don business attire or Barong for men, and business attire or knee-length Filipiniana dress for women.
