No road closure for Mandaue underpass project: DPWH 7

-

The Department of Public works and Highways (DPWH) 7 yesterday said that the UN Ave. in Mandaue City will not be closed to traffic when they will start the construction of the underpass project in the area on Monday.

“To allay your fears, we will not reduce any traffic flow. Currently, UN Ave. is four lanes and it will still remain four lanes at two lanes for each direction. We will first start the construction of additional two lanes on each side (of the road) to make it a total of eight lanes,” said DPWH 7 Director Ador Canlas.

He said the additional two lanes will serve as detour, which will later become service roads once the project is completed.

“We will provide the public the two lanes additional service roads first before we will excavate for the underpass,” Canlas said.

“Practically, we have negotiated with the lot owners. On the side of Plaridel St., there is no more problem because they have already agreed to sell their property. We are just preparing the required documents and we will pay them,” he added.

The duration of the under project is 910 days or more than two years.

“There will always be flexibility because we don’t know if it will rain. So, we will take advantage of the good weather by working 24 hours a day. We will perform on activities that we can do simultaneously. While working on the wall, we could work on the roads also,” Canlas said.

Meanwhile, Canlas said the agency have coordinated with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to remove the trees on UN Ave.

“There are trees that will be earth-balled and there are trees that are permitted to be removed. But definitely, we will be planting trees to replace those affected,” he said.

On the other hand, Canlas said that the Visayan Electric Company committed to start the relocation of their posts on Monday. DPWH, he said, is providing them a utility corridor.

DPWH 7 vowed to conduct regular coordination meetings with the stakeholders so they will be updated about the implementation of the project. /
