The University of Cebu Medical Center (UCMed) is now fully equipped and ready for its residency training program as it officially opened its Outpatient Department (OPD) last July 16.

The OPD includes Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics and Orthopedics. Part of the OPD is the Diabetes and Nutrition Center and Blood and Marrow Transplant Center.

At the Diabetes and Nutrition Center, patients are educated on the complications of the disease, instructions for insulin administration, proper nutrition and other essential information. It is also a one-stop shop, meaning, diabetic patients can get everything they need like insulin shots and lancets there. The center works closely with the Wound Care Center as well to ensure optimum care of patients.

UCMed’s Blood & Marrow Transplant Center is the first in the Visayas and Mindanao to offer stem cell transplant treatment. Usually, patients who had to undergo stem cell treatment had to fly to Manila just to get a consultation. Patients can now do pre-transplant and post-transplant at UCMed. Although the department is fully equipped facility-wise, UCMed is working toward acquiring more specialists for the procedure. In the meantime, the actual transplant is done at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City as part of a partnership with the institution.

The OPD for the residency training program is integral to UCMed as a training hospital. The core of the residency training program is to accept and handle cases under the social service program and help indigent patients.

UCMed is located on Ouano Ave., North Reclamation Area, Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
