Call Center City a ‘promise’ mayor wants to keep
Anyone interested in investing in the Call Center City that will be established at the South Road Properties (SRP) can submit their offer to the mayor’s office.
“Go ahead make an offer and we will see and the others also said, me too, that’s why we have the presentation of the site this morning,” Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña told reporters.
The mayor said the software on how the facility will run will be first established before they come up with the design of the physical structure.
Osmeña was joined by executives, managers and representatives of more than 20 business process outsourcing companies for a site visit at Pond A at the SRP.
He said the construction is expected to start next year immediately after the elections.
Early campaigning?
Asked if the project can be considered as early campaigning, he said it’s a promise he wants to keep to his constituents.
“I promised to give jobs to you and you’ll be rich and you don’t have to work in Singapore. You just stay here in Cebu. We have less broken families,” he said.
Osmeña said the Call Center City is a big project.
“This project is even bigger than the SRP. It’s going to be bigger than Cebu Business Park and it’s designed to help the millennials, the ones working for the call center. It’s going to improve the education of our people,” he said.
When sought for comment, Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella said nobody can prevent Osmeña from campaigning ahead of the campaign period.
“It’s a democratic society so let him do it. This is a free country. Everybody can run and I think he shares the same sentiment,” he said.
Osmeña said he wants the project to push through because he doesn’t want Cebuanos to end up working as sales girls and security guards of some major business establishments.
Through the Call Center City, agents will have the chance to continue their schooling. To make it convenient for them, classes for undergraduate and graduate studies will be available in the same building where the employee is working.
The project is expected to produce at least 30,000 master’s degree holders annually.
