P1.14M equipment eyed for marine corps
The Cebu City Government wants to purchase P1.14 million worth of various equipment for the 8th Marine Brigade Reserve.
In a proposed resolution, Councilor Dave Tumulak said the amount will be used to upgrade the marine corps’ capability for a more effective disaster response as force multipliers and relievers of the regular rescue unit of local governments.
The amount is proposed to be charged under the City’s share of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) fund.
Tito Ranara, acting chief of staff of the 8th Marine Brigade, requested Mayor Tomas Osmeña to purchase the equipment, which the latter approved.
In a letter sent to the mayor, Ranara said part of the P1.8 million will be spent for carpentry, digging, electrical and engineering equipment, and generator sets, among others.
“These equipment will be used for emergency response on collapsed structure, rescue during floods, and engineering civil action projects that we will undertake, especially on boring holes, carpentry works, mason, electrical, excavation works and usage on humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations, engineering civic action projects and civil military operations,” he said.
Tumulak’s proposed resolution was referred to the City Council’s ad hoc committee on Pagcor funds for review. /
