6TH RECOLETOS RUN SET
More than 2,000 expected to join sixth edition of Recoletos Run next month at the Plaza Independencia
More than 2,000 runners and fitness buffs are expected to hit the streets for the sixth edition of the Recoletos Run set on Sept. 16 at the Plaza Independencia in Cebu City.
The run, organized by the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) Alumni Association, looks to reach a milestone this year, in terms of the number of participants, after the event has been added in USJ-R’s calendar of activities.
“This year, we are looking at a minimum of 2,000 participants. The college freshmen are joining the fun run,” said alumni board of trustee Engr. Norberto Flores in yesterday’s press conference.
The proceeds of the run will be used to support the Alumni Scholars.
“Since the run started, there were three scholars who already graduated. Right now, we have five alumni scholars. The aim is to add more deserving scholars in the coming years,” said Flores.
The run will have the 12-kilometer, 6K and 3K categories. The 12K will be open to all, while the 6K and 3K will be for students, alumni and employees of the school. The men’s and women’s champions in every category will receive cash prizes.
One of the alumni scholars, Marchel Rom Olivar, who’s now a fifth year Electrical Engineering student, said that the alumni scholarship pays 100 percent of their tuition fees and they also receive allowances.
“I’m very much thankful with the alumni scholarship for covering my college fees. The alumni are also hands-on in guiding us scholars. And we have to maintain the required grade to remain a scholar,” she said.
One of the organizers Arnel Pahang said that the record number of participants for this event was more than 1,000 runners that happened on the second edition.
Romulo Sevilla Jr., the executive vice-president of USJ-R’s Alumni Association, said that they are looking at a minimum of 2,000 and a maximum of 3,000 participants this year.
Registration fee is at P300 for the 3K, P400 for the 6K and P500 for the 12K. /
