■ BROTHERS, INCLUDING EXPC, CHARGED AFTER HOLY FAMILY VILLAGE BUY-BUST
The Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor has in- dicted a former police constabulary officer and his brother for possession and sale of illegal drugs in Barangay Labangon last July 30.
Prosecutor Genevive Lawas charged Carmelito Desierto, 63, with violation of Section 12 (possession of drug paraphernalia) of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Desierto’s brother, Mark John, 32, was also charged with Section 5 (possession of dangerous drugs) of RA 9165.
Bail was set at P40, 000 for Carmelito, but the prosecutor did not recommend bail for Mark John, considering the amount of shabu seized from his possession. Operatives of the Punta Princesa police arrested the brothers in a buy-bust operation in the Holy Family Village in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City last July 30.
The anti-drug operations were carried out after the police received information about Mark John’s alleged involvement in illegal drugs in their village. A policeman posed as a buyer and bought two sachets of shabu while in Mark John’s house.
Police later said they also arrested Carmelito after they noticed he was rolling some tinfoil inside the house. The police seized from their possession sachets of shabu weighing about 5.44 grams and several drug paraphernalia.
