UCLM to join major event before Cesafi starts

-

The University of Cebu LapuLapu Mandaue (UCLM) plans to join a major sporting meet before their debut in the 2018 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi).

UCLM is the newest member of Cesafi after its application was approved last month. The team will be competing in the collegiate and secondary levels.

“It’s approved already, we are now processing the document and screening for the athletes,” UC’s head of the athletics department Jessica Honoridez told SunStar Cebu yesterday.

For a start, UCLM will be joining in the individual sporting events of Cesafi, namely, swimming, athletics, badminton, table tennis, chess, taekwondo, and karatedo. The team will have about 170 athletes.

To test the athletes’ readiness for Cesafi, the school plans to field the secondary level athletes to the 2018 Milo Little Olympics Visayas Regional Finals set on Aug. 30 to Sept. 2 in Cebu City.

“UCLM is interested to join the Milo Little Olympics but we have to ask for permission from the (school) president. It’s going to be a great test for the athletes before they compete in Cesafi,” she said.

Honoridez said that UCLM will also use the monicker Webmasters, just like the main campus’ squads, but they will be different teams.

“The athletes in UCLM are now very excited to play. For our first year there’s still no tuition discount since it’s just the start but we will work on it next year,” she said.

UCLM will join the current Cesafi member-schools University of San Jose Recoletos, UC-Main Campus, Cebu Institute of Technology University, University of Visayas, Don Bosco Technology Center, University of San Carlos, Cebu Eastern College, Southwestern University-Phinma, University of Southern Philippines Foundation, Sacred Heart School Ateneo de Cebu, and Cebu Doctors’ University. /
