Heavy traffic expected in south Cebu today

Motorists traveling to and from southern Cebu are advised to do so early this afternoon to avoid getting stuck in a gridlock as residents of Minglanilla will be holding their traditional procession in honor of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Jonathan Tumulak, Capitol focal person for traffic management, told reporters that slow-moving traffic is expected, especially since Minglanilla officials will implement a new traffic scheme for this afternoon’s activity.

The procession will start at 5 p.m. Tumulak assured that the procession will only use the national highway for a few minutes.

From the Archdiocesan Shrine of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Barangay Poblacion Ward 1, the procession will then proceed to the municipal hall, then pass by the town plaza before crossing the national highway.

“We will implement a ‘stop and go’ scheme in which once the procession is crossing the highway, we will interrupt parts of it to allow vehicles to pass through if the road is congested,” Tumulak said in Cebuano.

Upon crossing the national highway, the procession will proceed to the New Minglanilla Public Market in Barangay Ward 2 before making a U-turn then going back the same way.

The Municipal Government will also deploy traffic enforcers to make sure traffic flow will be managed well.

Tumulak said they already alerted traffic enforcement agencies in the cities of Naga and Talisay in case of emergencies.

The procession is part of the activities of the town’s annual fiesta, which will end tomorrow. /
