■ FREE WIFI IN 23 PUBLIC SPOTS IN MANDAUE, INCLUDING SCHOOLS

-

More than 20 public places in Mandaue City, most of them schools, now have access to free WiFi under the “Pipol Konek” project of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT).

A user can access up to 100 megabytes (mb) per session, enough for about eight hours of surfing for as long as no video is used.

“I encourage the public to use the free WiFi and to do so wisely,” Engr. Krister Corregidor K. Cosedo, officer-in-charge of the Management Information System Office at City Hall, said.

Among the places covered are the national high schools in Cabancalan, Canduman, Tabok, Casili, Jagobiao, Maguikay, Pagsabungan, Paknaan, Subangdaku, and Tipolo, as well as the Mandaue Comprehensive National High School, Gerardo Ouano Memorial National High School, Mandaue National Science High School, and Labogon National High School extension.

Also covered are City Hall, Eversley Childs Hospital in Jagobiao, Mandaue Library, Mandaue City Hospital, Mandaue Science School of Arts and Mandaue City Health Center.

Cosedo’s office has requested the DICT to add WiFi access in 11 more areas during the project’s second phase, on top of the 23 places (19 of them schools) already included.

“Based on our discussion with DICT, their main purpose is to provide internet access to the senior high schools,” Cosedo said. Apart from helping students with their research requirements, the project is also meant to assist out-of-school youth who need to visit government websites or perform online transactions.
