7 WAYS TO BE A HERO FOR THE PLANET
Protecting the planet can start with simple acts. As we celebrate National Heroes’ Day today, let’s be Mother Earth’s own heroes with these seven acts that can help change our home for the better.
LEARN TO SEGREGATE TRASH
A lot of people fail to practice proper segregation even when they’ve been taught about this since grade school. Take the first step and be Mother Earth’s own hero by showing some effort to diligently segregate your waste wherever you are, and make this world a better and safer place to live in.
SAVE THE SEAS BY USING LESS PLASTIC
Plastic takes thousands of years before it decomposes, thus greatly affecting our natural environment and oceans. Sea creatures are left helpless with all the plastic polluting their home, all because of our ignorance. Here are some way to reduce your use of plastic: Bring eco-bags when going shopping or doing the groceries; use metals straws instead of plastic ones. Baby steps lead to greater things. Bring out the hero in you and save our seas.
DON’T BE A LITTER BUG
Litter, no matter how small, still has its consequences. It’s rubbish that’s easily carried from one place to another and can contaminate water which may affect human health. Littering is a bad habit we sometimes do unconsciously, but it is never too late to change this. Keep litter inside your pocket or store it in your bag until you find a trash bin. This conscious effort will transform you into an everyday environmentalist and will inspire others to do the same.
REDUCE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT
Resort to more concrete carbon footprint reduction goals by walking or biking to nearby destinations instead of driving your own vehicle. Many still don’t understand how carbon pollution is an environmental issue that Mother Earth has long been facing. It’s a serious matter and everyone must take concrete actions to help ease its effects.
PLANT A TREE
A single tree provides numerous benefits, not just for the environment but for humans too. It provides food and oxygen, saves energy, cleans the air and helps fight climate change. Starting with a single tree will lead to hundreds more and you can just imagine the positive effects it will have for the environment. You can start by participating in tree planting activities or planting one in your own backyard.
VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME FOR MOTHER EARTH
If you’re confused where to start volunteer work, you can sign up for cleanup drives within your community. Volunteerism is also an act of heroism. It’s best to start in a setting where you feel most close to, and your little community is the answer. From there, you can soon volunteer in cleanup drives with bigger coverage and better mileage.
PAY IT FORWARD BY EDUCATING OTHERS
You will gain ample knowledge with experience and you can pay it forward by educating others as well. There are still hundreds of people out there who need to be educated for awareness. Start with a neighbor or friend to create a ripple effect. Soon, everyone will realize the need to keep our planet healthy for future generations and become ecowarriors as well.
