Marie Ernestine School students win top prizes at the 17th Philippine Robotics Olympiad

Students of Marie Ernestine School took home the top prizes at the 17th Philippine Robotics Olympiad national level competitio­n held at the Fisher Mall in Quezon City last Aug. 7 to 10. Robotics teams from the different parts of the country joined the competitio­n.

With the theme “Food Matters,” the event focused on the way we grow, share and consume food. Itwas organized and hosted by Felta Multimedia in preparatio­n for the upcoming World Robot Olympiad 2018.

Marie Ernestine School’s two campuses—the main campus in Lapu-Lapu City and the North Campus in Cebu City—sent nine teams and three coaches to represent the school and to compete in the robotics arena in the elementary, and junior and senior high school categories.

The teams’ hard work, dedication and proficienc­y in building and programmin­g Lego-based robots earned them the highest recognitio­n in the competitio­n.

In the elementary level, the first placers were Timothy John B. Ariola, Joseph Gabriel U. Chung, Karl Louise Berjame, while the second place rs wereEi nth onyC abating an, RhayaGabri­elle Villarino andZaiidTr­azo.

In the junior high school competitio­n, the first placer was the team composed of John Paul D. Trinidad, Nathaniel Louie A. De la Cruz and Josh Rafael See, while the team of Danielle Kyle A. Francisco, Franco Louise T. Rusiana, Jungkyo ( Jacob) Lee placed second in the senior high school category.

They will be part of the Philippine Robotics National Team who will compete in the World Robot Olympiad in Chiangmai, Thailand on Nov. 16 to 18.

A team composed of elementary pupils Zechariah Eamiguel, Shawn Benedict Sabas and AkiiTrazo will also be part of the Philippine Team in the World Robot Olympiad Friendship Invitation­al which will be held in Lapu-Lapu City from August 31 to September 2.

Other teams who made it to the finals are elementary pupils Nic Andrei Ong, Zen CorrelItum­ay and Juan Antonio Miguel Gayo, and junior high school students John Paolo Philippe Pegarido, Jean nina Car mel leQui sm undo, Junhyeok Jung, Renee JessabelMa­amo, Lettice Hyacinth Grefaldeo and Daniel Cunado.

“It is a great honor and pride to bring the name of our very own Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu as our robotics champions represent our country to the biggest and most prestigiou­s robotics competitio­n in the world,” officials of the Marie Ernestine School said.
