Man indicted for sneaking marijuana into Cebu port
The Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor has indicted a 22-year-old man who allegedly tried to sneak dried marijuana leaves into the Passenger Terminal 1 of the Cebu Port Authority (CPA).
Prosecutor Fatima Maadil found evidence to charge Gino Baring of Albuera, Leyte with violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
The port police arrested Baring for transporting about 148 grams of dried marijuana leaves through the Cebu port when he was bound for Ormoc City last Aug. 3, 2018.
The offense is non-bailable considering the volume of illegal drugs seized from Baring.
The arrest came after the x-ray operator sought police assistance about a passenger who carried dried marijuana leaves wrapped in Manila paper and packaging tape.
Police rushed to the passenger terminal and noticed something bulging in Baring’s groin.
When asked what it was, Baring said it was just an amulet.
When police asked him to take out the material, Baring tried to flee by running toward the pre-departure area.
Other policemen helped restrain the suspect.
When questioned inside the police office, Baring admitted he was transporting dried marijuana leaves to Ormoc.
