CARGO CONTAINERS MAKE THE MARKET
Same Sugbo Mercado concept in a new place, with new look
The Sugbo Mercado Food Bazaar Inc. (SMBI), the team that introduced Cebu’s first and biggest food market, has brought yet another trailblazing concept, The Market by Sugbo Mercado.
Mandaue’s first fully functional food, arts and co-working space and container van park is here to bring up the Cebuanos’ entrepreneurial spirit and sate those cravings every day of the week—almost. Unlike SMBI’s flagship project which is open only from Thursday to Sunday, The Market is open every day except Monday, from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Another venue targeted at the up-and-coming food entrepreneurs from Mandaue and the rest of Cebu, The Market aims to curate the best local brands that Cebu has to offer. Located along Mantawi International Drive (beside Westown Lagoon and fronting UCMed), North Reclamation Area, the 3,000-square-meter food park uses recycled cargo containers stacked together to create a larger, airy and more weatherproof space for both diners and its tenants.
The offerings at The Market range from top local picks like grilled seafood, lechon and barbecue to international favorites and must-try items such as Japanese cheese tarts, Chicago deep-dish pizza, gelato and Southeast Asian fare, among many others.
Upping the ante are its themed nights—movie night Tuesdays, trivia/slogos night Wednesdays, poetry night Thursdays, and local band appreciation from Friday to Sunday night—guaranteed to make each visit a feast for all senses. A co-working space and a coffee shop on the second level will also be made available soon, proving once again that The Market is not one’s ordinary dining destination.
