Police Station 7 or Pardo Police Station occupies a small space inside the public market of Barangay Poblacion Pardo

- SCG, JOB / RTF,

A local tennis court and a fire substation are among the locations a Cebu City village chief is considering as site for the new building of the Police Station 7.

Poblacion Pardo Barangay Captain Manolita Abarquez said she will propose these to the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) since these areas in her barangay would be ideal locations for the new police station.

At present, Police Station 7 or Pardo Police Station is occupying a small space in the local market of Barangay Poblacion Pardo.

CCPO has planned to build a police station in Barangay Inayawan, but the barangay council is planning to revoke the donation of a property to the Philippine National Police.

According to Inayawan Barangay Captain Kirk Bryan Repollo, the barangay council passed a resolution for the donation of the property in February 2017, but did not include an authorization yet for then village chief Lutherlee Ignacio-Soon to sign the deed of donation.

The 500-square-meter lot, he said, previously housed a market.

The barangay council is expected to discuss the legal actions they can take against CCPO in their session on Tuesday.

Repollo said they will also initiate a petition among their constituents on the matter.

“We’re not opposing the construction of a new police station, per se. The area lang gyod, makasamot sa traffic. Pwede man pud unta didto lang nila itukod sa playground or ila na lang i-improve ang ilang substation sa una (It’s the choice of area we are concerned about. It will worsen the traffic problem. Why not build it on the playground or just improve their existence substation?),” he said.

The playground is located beside the barangay hall, while the substation, which is reportedly not being used at present, is connected to the barangay hall.

Repollo said he and Abarquez have been discussing the issue and both agree that the new police station should remain in the same barangay.

He said Poblacion Pardo is a strategic location since it is directly connected to adjoining Barangays Inayawan, Cogon Paardo, Bulacao, Kinasang-an, Basak Pardo and Quiot.

But CCPO officials said that they intend to continue with the P5-million project.

CCPO Deputy Director for Administration Supt. Artemio Ricabo said that materials for the construction of the new Pardo Police Station are now being delivered.

Ricabo urged the local barangay officials to let them push through with the project.

“Kon sige tag lalis, magharang-harang ta, ang PNP naa nay budget. Sayang ang budget para ra man sad ni for the whole barangay (The PNP already has the budget. We should not block the project),” he said.

Ricabo said that CCPO have been doing their own negotiations with the barangay for the new Pardo Police Station.

Kon sige tag lalis, magharang-harang ta, ang PNP naa nay budget. Sayang ang budget para ra man sad ni for the whole barangay (The PNP already has the budget. We should not block the project.
