■ OSMEñAS JUST WAITING FOR THINGS TO SETTLE AFTER DUTERTE TIRADE

-

If ever Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña will talk to President Rodrigo Duterte, Councilor Margarita “Margot” Osmeña said it should be done after the “storm.” Margot did not give a categorical answer when asked if the mayor would talk to the President, but she said they want things to settle first before they do anything. “I cannot answer that (if there are efforts to talk to the President) but you don’t go to the middle of the storm, you wait until things get clear. Let things take care of themselves muna and then you will know what to do,” she told reporters yesterday. When asked how the mayor is doing after the President lambasted him in public, Margot said: “He’s good and fine. My husband is the calmest person in the world.” When asked if the statement of the President affected them, Margot said they are not numb. “You can’t say (if the statement of the president did not affect the mayor)... he’s not

manhid but it’s how he handles it. It’s how you deal with these issues, things thrown at you and you come out either better or worse or you can destroy yourself. So, it’s a choice you make,” she said. Since the incident, Margot said there has been an outpouring of support for them. “Thank you very much. The level of support that’s coming in even to me is very unexpected and we’re very grateful,” she said. During his visit in Mandaue City last Thursday, Duterte slammed Osmeña for allegedly spreading lies about him and implying that he was a protector of the illegal drug trade. He called the mayor arrogant for acting like he owns Cebu City.
