Cebu Province gears up for Batang Pinoy

-

The cold weather in Baguio City is one of the things that the Cebu Province delegation is preparing for when they compete in the Batang Pinoy National Championships on Sept. 15 to 21.

Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) executive director Atty. Ramil Abing said that the team visited Baguio City for an ocular inspection and to check the delegation’s billeting a week ago.

“(The) Important thing is we will remind and advise the kids to bring jackets to protect them from the cold weather. This is also the advise of the sports officer in Baguio City. When we were in Baguio City it was always raining,” said Abing.

Abing added that the billeting center for the 173man delegation is already arranged. “We are doing everything to assure a smooth stay of our athletes. The delegation will also bring a medic team to assure their safety,” he said.

The billeting areas for Visayas delegations are on three public schools in Baguio City, all the schools are in walking distance to the city’s oval and the City Hall.

Cebu Province gave a good account of themselves in the last edition of the Batang Pinoy Championships in Tagum City, about two years ago, with 17 gold medals, 17 silvers and 17 bronzes.

“I hope we can duplicate that or even get a better finish,” he said.

The Cebu Province delegation will travel via plane from Cebu City on Sept. 12 going to Manila, then will take a bus trip to Baguio City.

The sporting event for 15-under athletes organized by the Philippines Sports Commission (PSC) is the culminating event for the winners in the legs in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

These events are archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, dancesport, karatedo, lawn tennis, pencak silat, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball.

The sports that are straight to the national finals are cycling, futsal, gymnastics, judo, muaythai, triathlon, weightlifting, wresting and wushu. /
