“My family initially had a rough time with Chico. We had him as a rescued pup who was abandoned and beaten by several former owners for behaving badly. He hated being touched. He was this extremely noisy pup who liked imitating our two older dogs.”

“Chico was the most difficult dog that our family ever had. But it all changed in September of last year, when canine distemper broke out in our area. Almost all the dogs in the community, even those that had been vaccinated already, met an agonizing death. In our house, only Chico survived. It was so painful for the entire family to say goodbye to our three other dogs. Chico, perhaps, noticed this too. Maybe he realized he had to step up as he was the only dog left and no one was going to make us laugh anymore. Chico, suddenly, transformed into the sweetest dog ever, following us for hugs and cuddles. He now plays with us and even follows simple commands. Most importantly, he turned into the young baby brother we all needed who would let us pet him anytime and even listen to our rants and conversations as if he truly understands.”

What’s the best thing about your pet?

“Chico made us all realize that no amount of pain cannot be softened by constant pouring of love. Our incessant display of affection made him forget about his dark past and instead, he enjoyed whatever was in store for him.”

What tip can you give people who want to be responsible pet owners?

“Don’t give up on difficult pets. Please don’t ignore their inner cries for help nor abandon them when times get rough. As soon as they’re ready to let you in, they’ll give you the best love they could offer in their lifetime.”
