Police have yet to come up with a motive since personnel in both establishments allegedly refuse to cooperate

Two establishments in Cebu City with connections to businessman Peter Lim, who was tagged by President Rodrigo Duterte as a drug lord, were attacked in a span of 30 minutes.

According to Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) Chief Ryan Devaras, a bomb was lobbed by motorcycle-riding men at Chu- va-Chuva Spa on Tres Borces St. in Barangay Mabolo and the New Infinity Bar and KTV on Archbishop Reyes Ave. in Barangay Kamputhaw yesterday dawn.

“The suspects are still unknown. The same modus, but we cannot determine kung usa lang ba ni (if the two incidents are connected). That’s why we’re still scouring the area. Basin makakuha ta’g (Maybe we can gather) evidence like CCTVs para ma-compare nato kung usa lang na ba ni or duha ba ni sila ka grupo (and compare to see if the perpetrators are one and the same),” Devaras said.

The improvised explosive device thrown at Chuva-Chuva exploded, but the one at Infinity failed to go off.

Last March, an ambush at the Infinity bar killed a security guard and wounded three others. Unidentified men also tried to raze the same bar last June 30.

On July 5, a bomb also explod-

ed at Hilton Motors Corp., which is also reportedly owned by Lim.

Devaras said that Chuva-Chuva Spa does not have a business permit, but it is also allegedly owned by Lim.

“Allegedly, but dili ta ka-conclude dayun og wala tay (we cannot conclude because we don’t have any) evidence,” he said.

In an earlier report, Alfredo Janobas was identified as Chuva-Chuva Spa’s owner.

The City Hall served a closure order on the establishment in August 2017 because it was operating without a valid business permit. But when the incident happened at 2:44 a.m. yesterday, a customer was inside along with eight therapists.

The spa’s security guard said the attackers were wearing bonnets, black leather jackets and pants.

Infinity bar is under new management. Its business permits show that it is owned by a certain Gino Metante Ylanan, Devaras said.

Authorities are still trying to come up with a motive for the attacks.

“It’s still the same the motive is underdetermined,” he said in Cebuano.

Chief Insp. Maria Theresa Macatangay, chief of Police Station 2, said that they are also trying to get to the bottom of things.

“We can’t come up with any motive because management did not release any statement. We rely only on the evidence in case mo-file tag kaso sa perpetrators kay di mo-cooperate ang mga guards ug personnel (we’ll file a case against the perpetrators since the guards and personnel in both establishments won’t cooperate),” she said.

Devaras said that Lim is not in Cebu anymore.

“Wala siya sa area niya, sa mga known addresses niya (He can’t be found at any of his known addresses),” he said.

He said that an alias warrant was already released for Lim’s arrest.

“Any law enforcement officer can serve it since there’s already an arrest warrant,” he said.
