CPDRC segregates inmates according to types of crime

-

Provincial jail authorities are segregating the inmates according to the crimes they are accused of to monitor them better.

Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) Warden Reynaldo Valmoria said there are separate cells for inmates facing drug cases, and those facing murder cases, etc.

Valmoria said it will be easier for jail personnel to monitor the inmates’ activities.

Valmoria, a retired police chief inspector, has been implementing this policy for two months now, and he said it has been working so far.

He said inmates who are facing drug-related cases are placed in cell 1 up to cell 58 on the ground floor, while others are placed inside cell 59 up on the second floor.

At present, CPDRC has 3,941 inmates, of which 3,652 are males while the rest are females.

Of the total number, 2,905 are facing drug cases, 363 murder, 277 illegal possession of firearms, 129 rape and 267 for other cases.

Since Aug. 1, CPDRC has stopped accepting inmates from the towns and cities in the province, resulting in a decrease in the number of CPDRC inmates.

Last month, nine inmates were transferred to other jail facilities in the country. One was sent to a jail in Mandaluyong City. while eight were sent to the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa. /
